‘Twas the night before Christmas

The stockings were hung
By the chimney with care
With hopes of American unity
Permeating the air

Mother Nature is not proud
The Universe is sending messages
Citizens of Earth need to hear them loud
The Stock Market crashed in the Spring
It rallied all Summer and Fall
2020 has been a contentious year
Expectations for ’21 have grown tall
Americans sheltered in place this year
Activities had to be curbed
Online purchases set new records, yet again
Zoom became a verb
Scientists worked lightning fast to fight Covid
Operation Warp Speed took flight
Health Care and Essential Service workers are the Real Heroes
It is on them where we shine the light
Sports had to re-think its games to play
Japan’s Olympic hopes hit trouble
LA won 2 championship trophies
The NBA chose a bubble
NASA made history again
The Space Race is back in stride
Astronauts departed from US soil
SpaceX gave them the ride
Silicon Valley is under scrutiny
They say Big Tech has too much power
Innovation requires both investment and support
Now, People leave California by the hour
Biden is the 46th President
Kamala is the first woman Veep
A heated election it was, as expected
The political divide remains so deep
We said goodbye to John Lewis in 2020
We lost Kobe and Ruth Ginsburg too
George Floyd’s death sent shockwaves throughout the country
The melting pot of equality needs glue
The American spirit is peerless, time-tested and true
With perseverance and sound leadership, there’s nothing we can’t do
With crisis brings opportunity, history has shown
Success through ingenuity, it’s the fabric of our home
Now, Democrats! Now, Republicans!
Now, Independents and others!
Our nation requires collaboration!
We’re all sisters and brothers!
To the top of the porch! To the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!
