Then Russia invaded Ukraine
The people fought back with courage
Their bravery masked the fear
A great leader rose from obscurity
He was Time’s Man of the Year
The British Government faced challenges
3 Prime Ministers in 2 months’ time
The Pound cratered against the Dollar
10 pence bought a dime
Supply chain strains loosened
Global freight began to ship
Taiwan became a focal point
It’s there where they make the chip
Inflation was everywhere
Prices soared beyond the pump
The Fed responded frantically
That forced an economic slump
People returned to the movies
Watching on the Big Screen is much more fun
Hollywood still can’t profit with streaming
But Maverick made clear who’s Top Gun
The Astros Won the Series
Messi became soccer’s king
SI named Steph Curry sportsman of the year
He shot the Warriors another ring
We lost Lansbury, Poitier, Olivia and Caan
Vin Scully and Bill Russell graced the sports world, their impact lives on
From Gorbachev and Albright, authentic diplomacy was seen
The World is always turning, we bid farewell to the Queen
The American spirit is peerless, time-tested and true
With perseverance and sound leadership, there’s nothing we can’t do
With crisis brings opportunity, history has shown
Success through ingenuity, it’s the fabric of our home
Now, Democrats! Now, Republicans!
Now, Independents and others!
Our nation requires collaboration!
We’re all sisters and brothers!
To the top of the porch! To the top of the wall!
